The National Association of the Deaf organized a meeting on the 26th and 27th of March, 2011 in Bosco Reach out, at Guwahati, Assam. This programme was sponsored by the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai. The North Eastern Workshop on United Nations Convention on Rights of Person with Disabilities and Deaf Women’s Rights. The participants came from Manipur, Meghalaya and Assam. There were 42 deaf participants, both of male and female. A.S.Narayanan, Secretary of the National Association of the Deaf explaining to the North Eastern Deaf participants about the Acts that work as a regional legal safeguard for the persons with deafness and made a presentation about the UNCRPD. Smt. Geeta Sharma, the Woman Secretary of NAD also presented about the rights of the Deaf Women before the Deaf Women participants.
PRESENTERS
Presenters provided a unique insight and perspective into further legislative developments that need to be made in the area of anti-discrimination and equal opportunity for persons with deafness. Their expertise and experience from working in the field through National Association of the Deaf proved valuable insights into the achievements and challenges of establishing the North Eastern Region.
All participants and presenters possess the common value of anti-discrimination and equal opportunity. Presenters and facilitators represented State and District organizations in North Eastern Region.

PARTICIPANTS
The participants were reading the aims of the meeting. Participants included the representatives from the grass-roots Deaf Associations, such as IL Centers; Policy Level Disability and Human Rights NGOs; academicians and government personnel.
