STATE LEVEL WORKSHOP ON EMPOWERMENT OF DEAF WOMEN

The State Level workshop on Empowerment of Deaf Women was held on 28th and 29th July, 2012 in Bhilai Durg, Chhattisgarh organised by Bhilai Durg Welfare Association of the Deaf. It was a two days long workshop on empowerment of deaf women from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Smt. Geeta Sharma is a deaf person and also, the woman secretary of National Association of theDeaf, New Delhi. She visited Chhattisgarh for first time.

She made various presentations referring to deaf women. Deaf women leaders attended the workshop from various districts of Chhattisgarh. Most were enthusiastic and keen to have learnt things presented by Smt. Geeta Sharma , Smt. Bela Chitwadgi and Smt. Neetu who is a Committee Women member of NAD.

Programme was held in order to raise awareness and create a positive space in society for the deaf community and women’s issues. 150 deaf women attended the workshop in Bhilai Durg (Chhattisgarh) from across the state. This is to be noted that BhilaiDurg Welfare association of the Deaf is associated with National Association of the Deaf for young deaf people working together to tackle the varied problem of the deaf community and also to enhance the opportunities available to the deaf women empowering them to lead happy and productive integrated to the mainstream of society.
