The Disabled Rights Group (DRG) had organized a dharna in front of the Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi on 19th December, 2013. There was about 500 deaf people from National Association of the Deaf, who participated in the protest alongwith the different disabled groups. The new Disability Rights bill that was to be tabled in the Parliament did not happen due to the sudden adjournment of the Rajya Sabha on 18th December, 2013.
During the dharna, a DRG delegation was called in by the Secretary, Department of Disability Affairs, where she herself expressed shock over the sine die adjournment of the Upper house. The delegation along with the Secretary later met the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment the next morning to carve out a way forward.
